Welcome to the Data Intensive Computing and Systems Laboratory (DISCOS) homepage of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Sogang University. The DISCOS at Sogang University was founded in October, 2020 with the joint collaboration of DCCLAB (Distributed Computing and Cloud Research Laboratory) and LASS (Laboratory for AI System Software). The primary goal of DISCOS is to investigate a wide spectrum of design challenges and software issues for distributed computing and operating systems. We explore every research and development issue both theoretically and practically. We attempt to integrate the proposed solutions into real systems by developing/modifying various software including operating systems, middleware, and application. We also develop strong partnership with industry partners so that the research efforts produced by the lab can be available to industry. Specifically, current research topics include (i) software platform for big data and machine learning, (ii) cloud and edge computing, (iii) system software support for multicore and manycore processors, (iv) operating system and file system, (v) key value database system, and (vi) computer system security. We are always looking for highly motivated and talented students who are interested in the aforementioned research areas and willing to devote themselves to solving the challenging problems with the professors.
